The SHAMISEN is a banjo like instrumant used to accompany Bunraku & Kabuki.

The Bunraku is a form of traditional Japanese puppet theatre, founded in Osaka in 1684.

Kabuki is a classical Japanese dance-drama.

Did the Designer Get It Wrong ?
The Doorstops shows 4 strings while the Shamisen has 3. Note the number of pegs at the top of the instrument's neck--The Doorstop has 4 Pegs and the Shamisen has 3 Pegs (One Peg is used for tensioning an individual string)

NOTE 2:
This Doorstop is a 3 piece assembly which requires 3 separate molds to make. The more difficult a doorstop is to mold, the higher the value it will have. The Geisha is 2 pieces held together with one screw and the base (pillow) is attached to the Geisha with a screw.
