EASTERN SPECIALTY MANUFACTURING COMPANY
Eastern Specialty Manufacturing Co. was located in Lancaster,
1894 - 1930
Pennsylvania and first produced cast iron toys until
1920's when the company began manufacturing Doorstops,
Bookends and other useful cast iron items.
They were forced out of business by the Great Depression. in 1930
|MARKING STYLE :|
Almost all the time, Eastern Specialty
did Not put their marking on the doorstop's Surface
Their entire marking was on a nameplate.
raised just above the doorstop's flat surafce
The nameplate was a narrow rectangle with oblong ends.
At both ends, raised dots can be seen.
The desire was to create the effect that the doorstop
had a Nameplate that was riveted onto it.
Actually, not the case, the Nameplate, Lettering and Rivets
are all part of the cast iron casting. See Picture M3
On that Nameplate was Lettering saying:
EASTERN SPECIALTY MFG CO
(in Typewritten Block Style)
Sometimes, SPEC was used for specialty
Sometimes, the Doorstop Name and Number was given.
The Relationship between: Sculptured Metal Studios AND Eastern Specialty
The exact relationship is not known, but one existed.
Proof is twofold :
1. All of Sculptured Metal Studios Doorstops are Identical to Doorstops
made by Eastern Specialty. So, when one of their doorstops is examined,
the maker is not known until the the back is seen.
2. All of Sculptured Metal Studios doorstops have a nameplate
identical to Eastern Specialty as described above, except for the lettering.
